The Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens have had a busy (and FUN) summer! Catch up with us!

We kicked off our summer programming on June 1st with an 8-day 21st Century Community Learning Centers camp! These 8 days were jam-packed with learning, recreation, and adventures for our children.

Hattie Thomas Whitehead came to the Joel E. Smilow Club to talk with our kids about her book “Giving Voice to Linnentown.” She not only spent time our members, but also gifted them copies of the book.

Our members had an incredible time at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History.

We wrapped up 21st Century Camp with a trip to Stone Mountain Park!

The weekend before BGCA camp kicked off, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens were lucky to partner with the incredible folks at Phil Hughes Honda, Aubrey Entertainment, New West Records, Strolling Bones Records, and Normaltown Records to put together New West Fest: A Benefit for Boys & Clubs of Athens.

All ticket sales from New West Fest went directly to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens’ programming costs. It was a day full of good music for a great cause!

BGCA summer camp kicked off on June 13th and wrapped up on July 29th. These 7 weeks were filled with in-club activities - such as art, recreation, and healthy habit building, as well as out-of-club experiences.

Our kids celebrated Juneteenth by showing off their art skills with a Kente paper weaving activity.

June 27 - July 1st was National Boys & Girls Club Week. Pictured above are our kids celebrating Wellness Wednesday with homemade trail mix (left) and Career Day (right).

We went on a variety of field trips this summer, including trips to Stars & Strikes, Malibu Grand Prix, and the Georgia Aquarium!

The Boys & Girls Clubs proudly opened two new satellite clubs this summer. We were able to collaborate with Athens Housing Authority, as well as Athens-Clarke County Unified Government, to offer extended summer programming at the Nellie B and Rocksprings Community Centers. This partnership has allowed the Boys & Girls Clubs to serve up to 35 kids, ages 6 to 12, at each facility.
